6 Must Haves for Your Maryland July 4 Party

Happy July 4, Marylanders! If you're like most people, you're planning to party today, so it's time to run through your checklist of what makes an Independence Day party go off without a hitch. Stay safe, have a blast, don't get too hot, and check out our suggestions below!

1. Sunscreen

Maryland weather likes to play tricks on us, but that doesn't mean we can skip the sunscreen! Whether it's cloudy or full-on sunny, spending the day outside with friends and family means slapping on the SPF. Trust us, you'll be glad you did when you go back to work tomorrow without looking like a steamed crab.

2. Local Music

You can't have a party without music! Why not pay tribute to the local artists from all kinds of genres who have made this state proud? From All Time Low to Beach House, Sisqo to Jimmy Charles, you can make a pretty incredible playlist for the July 4 bash of just artists from your home state.

3. Sparklers

This one's a no-brainer. Sparklers are the perfect mini-firework, and though they do require some caution, they're safe enough for even children to enjoy. Get those Instagram pics with all of your friends or siblings!

4. Mixed Drinks

If you're of age and drinking responsibly, a cocktail makes the perfect addition to any outdoor party or BBQ. And they don't have to be too fancy to make you feel like you're at a next-level party! Want inspo? We can help.

5. Cold treats

No pool to splash in at your July 4 bash? Well, at least you can beat the heat with ice cream or popsicles! If you really want your guests or hosts to get excited, bring some frozen treats with you to the party. Ice cream sandwiches, anyone?

6. Steamed Crabs

We're ready to pick and devour! There's truly no better occasion than July 4 to serve up a big spicy bushel of perfectly-cooked Maryland crabs. Spread out the newspaper, grab your hammer, and get to work. (If you're one of those Marylanders who isn't sure how it all works, your secret is safe with us. Try this guide!)
