Now that the weather is getting warm again, you may feel the urge to get your hands dirty and plant some flowers, herbs, or veggies! Of course, not everyone has a large yard or garden in which they can plant their favorite things. Maybe you live in an apartment or college housing, or maybe you simply don't have yard space. That doesn't mean gardening is out of the question! Try these hacks instead.
1. Go classic with window boxes
The most obvious way to get around space constraints in your home or yard is to seek out a window box! These will add some beauty and charm to your home's decor, too. Be sure to choose your windows and plants according to the amount of light and water that that location gets -- you don't want to put a plant that need a lot of sunshine in a shady spot. Coleus, ivy, and basil are great options for this.
2.Turn the bathroom into a garden
Many plants actually thrive in bathrooms because this space is often warm and moist. Ferns and pothos both love being in environments that showering and bathing creates. If your bathroom has a window, you can opt for plants that love light.
3. Go vertical
Don't have a lot of room to spread out? Don't worry -- many plants would rather go up than out. You can put a trellis on your apartment's balcony or utilize the existing railing. Think beans and peas or vining flowers.
4. Make a container water garden
Have a large deck or patio but not much lawn? A water container garden is an easy way to add beautiful aquatic plants to your space. The nice thing about this style of gardening is that you can make it as simple or complex as you'd like -- you can even add fish if you're feeling really ambitious. Learn more here.
5. Turn your office into your garden
No room or time to garden at home? Make your desk or office space the outlet for your green thumb. Seek out hardy houseplants that aren't super picky about light or water, like snake plants, ZZ plants, or Chinese evergreens. Just be sure to give your plant a drink on Friday before you leave!
