It's picnic time in Maryland! With plenty of parks, yards, pools, woods, and farms to explore, there's no shortage of great places for Marylanders to have picnics. Want yours to be absolutely perfect? These hacks will make it happen!
1. Bring the baby wipes!
Mess stands no chance when you've got baby wipes on hand. They're packed conveniently and they will keep you feeling fresh and clean no matter how messy your meal gets.
2.Use a shower curtain liner under your picnic blanket
Keep your blanket free of sand, dirt, and grass stains by packing a cheap shower curtain liner with your picnic things.
3. Get freezing
You don't want anything to melt on the way to your destination, so freezing will be your friend. You can freeze everything from water bottles to butter the night before to ensure these items stay cold and fresh during your picnic.
4. Use plastic egg cartons for dipping sauces
If your sauces touching your food (or one another) makes you shudder, you can keep them separated by putting each sauce in its own plastic divot of an egg carton.
5. Use a fitted sheet as a picnic tablecloth
No one likes wrestling with those flimsy paper tablecloths. Instead, use a fitted sheet! You can just toss it in the washing machine later, and it's a lot less likely to fly away or come undone.
6. Put a popsicle stick on your watermelon
Tired of juice getting all over your hands? Just put a popsicle stick into the rind of the watermelon and eat it like a popsicle.
7. Stick with screw-top wine
Is there anything worse than bringing a bottle of vino to your picnic, only to realize you don't have a corkscrew (or nobody can get the cork out, even if you do)? Avoid all the trouble and pack screw-top bottles instead.
8. Tie up sandwiches with string
You spent a lot of time on those fancy sandwiches, and you don't want them coming apart in transit. Tie them up with string -- it'll add some aesthetic flair, and it'll serve the practical purpose of keeping them from sliding apart in the basket.
9. Make s'mores on the grill
No bonfire? No problem! You can use your mini or full size grill to get the job done. Just top your graham cracker with marshmallow and chocolate, then put the top cracker on and cover the whole thing in aluminum foil. Put it on the grill for three minutes or so and then enjoy!
10. Use a six-pack holder to carry plastic silverware and straws
This simple hack is a great way to stay organized! You can use the six compartments in a cardboard bottle holder to separate forks, knives, spoons, straws, and other items like napkins or hand sanitizer.
