Summer is within sight, Marylanders! And as the weather warms up, romance tends to warm up, too. Whether you're dating someone new or you want to have a few more date ideas for that special someone you've been with for awhile now, we've got some local summer date options that will make everyone happy.
1. Go kayaking or canoeing
Our local state parks offer plenty of serene lakes and waterways to try out! Learning to kayak or canoe could be a great new hobby, or it could be a hilarious adventure. Either way, it's perfect for couples who have an adventurous spirit.
2. Head to a local ice cream spot to beat the heat
There's truly no shortage of fun, creative, and delicious ice cream makers in the state of Maryland! Sample some sweet new flavors from the Charmery, Bmore Licks, or Rocky Point Creamery with your sweetheart.
3. See a movie under the stars
Who says that going on the same kind of date that your grandparents did is a bad thing? Maryland boasts a drive-in theater called The Bengies in Middle River that gives couples the chance to enjoy an old-school date night with new movies!
4. Hit up a concert
Thanks to places like Merriweather Post Pavilion, Ottobar, Pier Six Pavilion, and the freshly-resurrected Recher Theatre, Maryland has plenty of concert spots to choose from! Take your honey out to see their favorite band or musician, or take a chance on a rising star.
5. Have good old-fashioned fun at the fair
There are plenty of local fairs and festivals all over the state in the summertime, but late August and early September is the time for lovers of the Maryland State Fair! Add even more romance to your date by enjoying the glow of the rides by sunset or night -- it'll be perfect for your photos together!
6. Spend a day at the beach
A day trip to Ocean City is pretty doable from many starting points in Maryland, and a weekend is easy to do for most, too! Take a swim together, hit up a crab house, or buy one another gifts from the boardwalk.
7. Catch a baseball game
Even if you're not a hardcore sports fan, going to a baseball game downtown is a great time! You can grab a pair of seats, share some popcorn or hot dogs, and cheer for the home team -- or engage in a little bit of people watching. If you're especially lucky, you can smooch under the fireworks after the O's win!
