]]>Aries
Be proud of your accomplishments! You've been doing some really cool stuff lately, whether it's a big deal or just a big deal to you. Give yourself some space to brag, and surround yourself with people who are proud of you, too.
Taurus
Not every thought needs to be shared, Taurus. If you've been in an oversharing mood lately, it may be time to rein it in. Instead of laying your every thought bare, verbally or online, stick to sharing those ideas with a smaller circle.
Gemini
It's time to shake up your weekend routine. Instead of doing what you always do, why not try something a little bit out of the ordinary -- a museum trip, a visit to a historical site, a greenhouse, or even a visit to the local animal shelter to say hi to the pups? You'll be energized if you think outside the box a bit.
Cancer
If it sounds too good to be true, Cancer, it just might be. Be on the lookout for scams and schemes that prey on hopeful folks looking for a good deal -- be smart about what you buy and who you share information with.
Leo
Preserving memories is a worthwhile task, Leo, and you're the perfect person for the job. Whether you're building an online photo archive, developing physical film, or talking to older relatives to get their stories written down, you're doing an incredible job keeping family history alive.

]]>1. Go classic with window boxes
The most obvious way to get around space constraints in your home or yard is to seek out a window box! These will add some beauty and charm to your home's decor, too. Be sure to choose your windows and plants according to the amount of light and water that that location gets -- you don't want to put a plant that need a lot of sunshine in a shady spot. Coleus, ivy, and basil are great options for this.
2.Turn the bathroom into a garden
Many plants actually thrive in bathrooms because this space is often warm and moist. Ferns and pothos both love being in environments that showering and bathing creates. If your bathroom has a window, you can opt for plants that love light.
3. Go vertical
Don't have a lot of room to spread out? Don't worry -- many plants would rather go up than out. You can put a trellis on your apartment's balcony or utilize the existing railing. Think beans and peas or vining flowers.
4. Make a container water garden
Have a large deck or patio but not much lawn? A water container garden is an easy way to add beautiful aquatic plants to your space. The nice thing about this style of gardening is that you can make it as simple or complex as you'd like -- you can even add fish if you're feeling really ambitious. Learn more here.
5. Turn your office into your garden
No room or time to garden at home? Make your desk or office space the outlet for your green thumb. Seek out hardy houseplants that aren't super picky about light or water, like snake plants, ZZ plants, or Chinese evergreens. Just be sure to give your plant a drink on Friday before you leave!
]]>Let's face it -- life is expensive! It seems like just about everything these days is more pricey than we remember it being. But here in Maryland, there are still some great free spots and activities to enjoy. These fun destinations and ideas are ideal for anyone; after all, free is in everyone's budget.

Music festivals don't have to be pricey. In fact, here in Maryland, you can listen to some local up and coming music acts at Canton Waterfront Park for completely free! Granted, you'll need to pay for things like food and beverages once you're in, but the music won't cost a dime. This festival will be back in June and will occur monthly throughout the summer.
7. National Cryptological Museum
Cracking codes and outsmarting spies is the theme of this museum that's part of the NSA. Head to Annapolis Junction to find out more if you're a lover of all things history and counter-intelligence. You can even see some real artifacts on display!
Note:donations are generally encouraged for any free destination, and if you've got a few bucks to give, it will go towards keeping these amazing places flourishing! Your Maryland community will thank you.

If you and your date are both the outdoorsy type, you can go on a brisk hike to Maryland's fossil destination! Enjoy the natural beauty of the park as you make your way to the shoreline, where shark teeth from millions of years ago are just waiting to be discovered. Talk about a romantic adventure!
Do you and your date both love all things spooky? Indulge your morbid side by taking a walk through the state's most famous burial site! There's some real beauty to be seen in the old tombstones, and many well-known figures were laid to rest here.
]]>Marylanders love Old Bay, but what the heck is ube? It's a starchy purple yam with a sweet and mild flavor that might become your new fave. Combine it with the punchy spice of Old Bay in this recipe from McCormick and you might be the MVP of your party.
2. Football Cheese Ball Charcuterie

Taurus
Trust your instincts this month! If something doesn't feel quite right in your gut, take notice of that feeling and act accordingly. You might know more about the feeling of a situation than you realize.
Gemini
If you keep comparing your life to that of others, you'll miss everything that makes your day-to-day special and important! Forget about keeping up with the Joneses, Gemini. You've got plenty to be thankful for.
Cancer
You don't have to agree with the crowd to ensure that your friends still like you! Don't bottle up your feelings or lie just to avoid having a disagreement. True friends won't leave you just because you happen to have a difference in opinion.
Leo
Got your passport ready? It may be time to take off for some warmer weather and sunnier days. If you're feeling stir-crazy, it may be time to finally get your friends together and book that cruise or beach trip that you've always been talking about.

Aquarius
Pisces
Are some new recipes calling your name? Don't let your lack of experience or your limited ingredients hold you back. There's plenty of creative food you can make on any budget, so get to it -- you might just discover your new favorite recipe.
]]>1. Paint pottery
Paint-your-own pottery spots have been popular for a while, but you can add a Galentine's twist! Paint bowls, plates, or tchotchkes in pinks, reds, and whites, or let everyone draw names and paint something to give to one another.
2. Enjoy some art
There are plenty of free or inexpensive museums here in Maryland to visit. You and your gals can dress up in your finest and browse the paintings and sculptures together! See if you and your gals can find a painting that matches your outfit's color schemes or a subject who looks like one of you.
3. Have a themed party
These are popular on Tiktok, so why not hop on the trend yourself! Get all of your girls to dress up according to a theme, like 'your first fictional character crush' or 'your favorite female superhero'. Bring snacks, watch movies, and be sure to take plenty of pics.
4. Hit the road
A local road trip could be just what you and your girls need! Maryland has so much to offer that you may not need to go far. Seek out weird local history, thrift shops full of strange treasures, boutiques with cute clothes, or wineries with that perfect blend. There's no limit to what you could find.
5. Bake up a storm
Cookies, cakes, brownies....or maybe something savory? You and your ladies can make something great (or something funny, at the very least) this year. Get creative with sprinkles and enjoy all the sugar you want.
6. Get cheesy
Come on, there's nothing wrong with being sentimental once a year! Write your ladies some heartfelt cards (homemade for that extra sweet touch) or make a presentation about why your girls are so important to you. Don't be afraid to get mushy!
]]>Aries
Trying something new isn't always an immediate success, Aries. In fact, you might be pretty bad at your new hobby or class when you first get started. January is the month to be tenacious! Don't give up until you give it a solid chance.
Taurus
Don't let nostalgia blind you to the reality of the here and now. Even if things were great in the past, it may be time to move on and find what's great in the present! If you're feeling stuck, don't be afraid to let go of what once was.
Gemini
It's the dead of winter, but your mind is already on summer! Now's an amazing time to get planning that perfect beach trip or lake getaway. After all, you don't want all the good rentals to be gone once that nice hot weather does eventually get here. Who says it's too early?
Cancer
Are deadlines sneaking up on you, Cancer? It's time to put that anxiety to rest and just take care of business. The relief that you'll feel is worth the work that you'll need to put in, after all.
Leo
Earth to Leo! Maybe you've been a bit more distracted than usual lately -- and it could be affecting your relationships. Put more effort into focusing on the people who care about you, and you'll be rewarded with their gratitude.
Virgo
Libra
Scorpio
Material objects aren't as important as they might seem right in this moment, Scorpio. Sure, social media might make it seem essential to own the newest piece of tech or the newest beauty product, but it's truly not what matters. Instead, take some time to savor good friendships and moments of peace.
Sagittarius
Getting into some healthy new habits doesn't have to be a pain -- and it doesn't need to take a lot of time, either. Focus on achieving something small but doable, like drinking more water or taking a daily walk. You'll be pretty proud of yourself for making it happen!
Capricorn
Aquarius
Pisces
The company you keep will rub off on you, Pisces. If you're hanging out with people whose values just aren't aligned with yours -- or if they're bringing you down, emotionally -- it's time to find a new crowd for the new year. Leave those folks in the dust and find a new crew who will make you feel excited and motivated!
]]>1. Save up for that big purchase
Instead of buying lots of little things every time you get the urge to have fun, curb that feeling knowing that a big reward could be yours later in the year! 2024 could be the perfect time to go on that fun vacation or buy that dream car, but you won't make much progress on that goal if you don't save now.
2. Give your passion more time and energy
You don't just live to work or study, eat, and sleep. If you feel like you're in a rut, it may be the year to really ask yourself what you're passionate about. Is it volunteering for a local organization? Helping animals, kids, or the elderly? Maybe it's sharing your creative vision with the world. Who knows what could happen when you prioritize what makes you feel good?
3. Avoid what makes you feel unhappy
This sounds obvious, but think about it -- do you follow people on social media who make you angry or hang out with people who get on your nerves? Why bring that kind of energy into the new year? Obviously, we can't escape everything that makes us feel negative, and we shouldn't be afraid to deal with negative feelings, but we have control over some of the things that bring us down. Mute, block, move on, and focus on what makes you feel joy.
4. Take a break from the screens
There's a lot more life than just being on social media! Take some time to break away from all of that screen time and find some new hobbies that don't involve any electronics. Go hiking in Maryland's many state parks, learn how to craft, or take up a new exercise that gets you moving and grooving!
5. Get to know your local history
There's so much history right in your own backyard! Becoming learned in how far Maryland has come -- the good, the bad, and everything in between -- will make you a better citizen and a more informed person. And there's a lot of funny, weird, tragic and triumphant Maryland history to learn! Go on history tours, check out books from the library, and talk to folks in your community.

1. The wheel was invented by a man who was getting tired of all of the trash in the Jones Falls
As John Kellett went to work in Baltimore every day, he noticed a lot of garbage clogging up the Jones Falls, and he decided to do something about it. He designed a garbage cleaning solution that would be powered by the current and by the sun that would funnel litter flowing down from the river into its mouth, then lift it into a conveyor belt that leads to a dumpster. You can see how it works here!
2. Some wild things have been found inside of the wheel
And we mean literally wild -- infamously, a ball python was recovered from within Mr. Trash Wheel's innards. The trash collectors have also found musical instruments, tires, kegs, and plenty of cigarette butts and plastic bags.
3. Over two million pounds of trash have been collected
In a single day in 2015, after a heavy storm, Mr. Trash Wheel ate up 19 tons of garbage! The fact that there's so much for the wheel to empty helps Baltimore residents reckon with the fact that there's a lot of plastic pollution in their waterways in the first place -- but things can be done to fight it.
4.Mr. Trash Wheel has inspired many other trash wheels
In Maryland alone, three other trash wheels have been born -- Professor Trash Wheel, Captain Trash Wheel, and Gwynnda the Good Wheel of the West (who is the largest and most productive of all of the current wheels here in Maryland). But trash wheels have become trendy, and people from all over the world have begun creating them for their own cities and waterways.
5. You can join in on Mr. Trash Wheel's mission!
Want to help keep your local waterways free of garbage? You can be Mr. Trash Wheel's land-dwelling counterpart by joining the Order of the Wheel, a 'secret' society with a mission to make the world a little less trashy. Want to learn more? Click here.
]]>There's nothing more fun than bringing the gift that everyone wants to steal! Here are a few options for you to bring to your next White Elephant.
Maryland Flag Crab Shell Ornament
There's something so classic about choosing to bring a Christmas ornament, and we know everyone at the party is going to want to hang this baby on their tree!
This isn't just a practical item (though we can all use a pint glass, no matter what it is we like to drink!). This is also a work of art that folks will love showing off -- and they'll want to steal it for sure.
Aspiring hosts will definitely want to get their hands on this fun chip and dip platter! It also makes an amazing gift for whoever is throwing the party to thank them for having everyone over.
Getting the kitchen ready for the holidays is a rite of passage all over the country, but this kitchen towel has a particularly Maryland twist! It's perfect for home chefs and crab lovers alike.
Quilted Maryland Flag Cosmetic Bag
Makeup lovers will compete like no one's business to be the proud owner of this distinctive and gorgeous cosmetic bags! If you're going to a party with folks who obsess over GRWM vids, this is a must-buy.
Natty Boh Baseball Script Clear Bag
This is another item that's as useful as it is Maryland-proud! It's ideal for groceries, schoolbooks, and of course, holiday gifts. Everyone at the party will hope they can steal it.
]]>1. Be like Santa -- make a list and check it twice
It'll curb your impulse buying and spending, and it'll ensure that you've really sat down and thought about what you'll be buying for whom. You can also use it to track your budget for gifts.
2. Skip the dishes -- seriously
Nobody likes doing the dishes around the holidays. Nobody! Instead of forcing yourself or someone else to do them, buy some high quality single use plastic plates and treat yourself to the easiest cleanup ever. More time to watch movies or sports!
3. Go the Secret Santa route instead of buying for everyone
Stressed about shopping for your whole friend group, office, or family? Get everyone on board with a secret Santa where each person focuses on a great gift for just one member of the group.
4.Do the holidays potluck style
Instead of asking one person to do all of the cooking (and all of the ingredient shopping), let everyone bring a dish to share. Folks who don't have much skill in the kitchen can buy beverages or bring premade dishes from the farmer's market.
5. Store your wrapping paper safely
Just grab a garment bag and store your tubes inside! This is less bulky than a big box, but will still offer protection from dust, pets, and sunlight.
6. Store items in your online cart
After a day or two, the retailer may send you a coupon to encourage you to go back and buy the items you've collected. It's a good way to save a few extra bucks on gifts you already planned to buy.
7. Snag a reusable tree you can use year after year
Some people prefer to the smell and look of a real tree, but an artificial one can pay for itself as it's used year after year. You can get great deals on them as you get closer to Christmas day -- might not be a bad idea to find next year's tree now!
8. Consider giving your time instead of your money as a gift
For many people, having company while they tackle a big clean or make a long drive can be worth a lot more than a gift from the store. Do you have friends with small kids? Offer to babysit. Know someone coming from out of town to celebrate? Let them skip the Uber and drive them to the airport.
9. Keep everyone's gifts organized with unique paper
Instead of sticking name tags on a bunch of different packages, you can keep things streamlined by giving each member of the family or friend group their own wrapping paper design. It'll make passing them out a cinch!
10. Decorate with natural items
One of the best things about the holidays is the fact that you can use things that are found right outside your door to decorate! You can gather pine cones to put in a glass jar, apples and winter gourds for the table, and pine boughs for the mantle.
]]>There's a lot to be thankful for all over the world and all over the USA, but here in Maryland, we're awfully lucky. We've got a lot to reflect on and feel thankful for. So during this season of reflecting and gratitude, why not consider these things that make Maryland special?
1. The natural beauty
From the striking Appalachians to the picture-perfect sunrises over the ocean, Maryland has natural beauty that other states just can't match! We've got plenty of untouched state parks and rolling forests, tranquil lakes and stunning waterfalls, and fields of sunflowers and lavender that roll as far as the eye can see. All in just one state!
2. The food
This one's no-brainer. Marylanders know how to make some incredible food! You can thank your lucky stars that you're living in a state where succulent steamed crabs, savory pit beef, and boardwalk fries are all within easy reach. Let's be real -- any state without Old Bay caramel popcorn is a state that's simply inferior.
3. The history
Maryland has an incredibly rich history, whether you go back a hundred years or a few million. There are dinosaur bones and shark teeth, the birthplace of the National Anthem, sports legends and athletic records, and much more. Not all of the state's history is pretty, but it's important to acknowledge and learn from the ugly moments, too. There's a lot to discover here, and that's something to feel thankful for.
4. The creativity
Some of the country's most incredible writers, filmmakers, and artists called or call Maryland home. There are so many cultures and styles that are coming together in the different cities and neighborhoods -- truly "America in Miniature" is not an exaggeration. So it makes sense that so many of the state's creative outputs are so varied!
5. The people!
What truly makes a place special is the people who inhabit it, and that includes you! Every day you go out and make your mark on the state, meet new people, and share your gifts. We're pretty thankful to you for being our customers -- and our friends.
]]>That means that you'll need to buff up your reusable bag collection! And we know that this is the perfect chance for you to show off your fashion sense -- and your Maryland pride -- every time you go shopping. Here are a few of our picks.

Thanksgiving is a lot of fun, and most of us spend all year long thinking about the tasty treats that await. But it can also be stressful trying to make all that magic happen! Well, we've got some tips to make things easier -- try these Thanksgiving hacks, and thank us later.
1. First of all, make life easy for everyone by splitting the labor -- consider going full potluck style! Everyone can bring a dish or two, and that way no one is spending all day sweating over a hot stove. (The less-great cooks can bring the rolls -- or the beers).
2. Go old school and print your recipe of choice out. Why? Well, instead of touching your phone or tablet with dirty hands, you can just tape it to a wall or cabinet so it's always at eye level.
3. Use your slow cooker as a warmer that you barely have to think about! Potatoes, gravies, veggies, etc...they'll all stay nice and cozy-warm while you work on making other dishes.
4. Foil is great for many of the classic Thanksgiving dishes, but keep the foil tent off the turkey! Why? Well, this article points out that it's just going to destroy that lovely crispy skin with sogginess.
5. Make your own whipped cream for the pumpkin pie. Sure, we all love the sound of that whipped cream coming out of the spray can, but you can flavor homemade whipped cream any way you like, and it's as easy as it is tasty. Here's a recipe.
6. Save space in the fridge by breaking out the coolers. They're not just for summer cookouts and football tailgates, after all! You can keep all of the desserts and stored foods in the refrigerator without worrying about the drinks getting warm.
7. Your cooler can also be, well, a warmer! Line it with foil on the inside and store warm dishes inside -- the insulation will help trap all of the heat so that none of your dishes cool down before dinnertime.
8. Want to impress your guests with beautiful serving platters but don't want to spend a fortune? Hit up the thrift or vintage store! You may be rewarded with some amazing finds that are downright cheap. The same goes for gravy boats, glasses, or serving utensils.
9. Planning on taking home or keeping a lot of leftovers? Sure, plastic containers are convenient, but if space is at a minimum in your fridge or freezer, put the food in gallon bags instead so they can be laid flat.
10. Let the kids have some fun -- and keep them distracted so they don't start begging for dessert too early -- by covering the kid's table with butcher paper instead of a tablecloth. Set out crayons or colored pencils and let them make some masterpieces between helpings!
]]>There's something about this time of year that just smells so good. The kitchen's full of delicious things, and the smell of a fire in the fireplace is so special, too. ]]>1. Bake them into cookies
Skip the chocolate chips and pour M&Ms into your cookie dough instead. If you're feeling especially industrious, you can chop up other candy bars with a kitchen knife and stir them into the batter as well.
2. Whip up the sweetest fondue
Gather up pretzel rods, cookies, fruit, and anything else you'd like to dip in chocolate. Then, put your favorite leftover chocolate candies in a slow cooker and put it on low. Soon, you'll have a hot and gooey fondue that you'll love dipping into!
3. Create candy bark
Melt chocolate bars in the microwave and carefully pour the mixture onto wax paper. Sprinkle on nuts, coconut shreds, or more candy -- it's your bark! Let it cool and then break into pieces.
4. Transform vanilla ice cream
The ice cream machine isn't broken at your house! Just add some vanilla ice cream and some of your favorite candy to the blender, pulse, and enjoy a soft and swirly combo of candy and ice cream.
5. Mix your goodies into popcorn
Sweet and salty treats are popular for a reason -- they taste so good! Save some candy for your next movie night. Just pour them right into the popcorn bag and shake it up. Voila! Salty-sweet perfection.
6. Transform your Starbursts into 'shot glasses'
Keep things sweet by fashioning these tasty cups out of melted and hardened Starburst candies. You can fill them up with juice, sherbet, or even ice cream. And if you're of legal age, you can fill them with other beverages, too. Here's the recipe.
7. Add some pizzazz to your Rice Krispy treats
Who says you can't invite chocolate to the Rice Krispy treat party? Pour in crushed or chopped candy while your marshmallow goo is still warm and stir. You'll be rewarded with an ooey, gooey, decadent treat.
]]>Happy November, Marylanders! There's so much to be excited about and thankful for this month, but you may be wondering just what is in store. Well, Madame Maryland looked into her crystal ball -- here's what she saw.
Aries
Is your sweet tooth calling to you, Aries? Well, instead of just picking up a cake from the store, why not challenge yourself to make some incredible desserts from scratch? Sell them, share them, or keep them for yourself -- the choice is yours.
Taurus
It's only just November, but your mind is already on the holidays! Now's the time to beat the crowds and plan out the perfect gifts for the people on your list. Keep in mind that the perfect present doesn't have to be expensive, and if you're getting started this early, it doesn't have to be stressful, either.
Gemini
Not sure what to wear? You're ready to rock an eclectic style, Gemini. Who says you can't mix and match some seemingly-contradictory pieces together? You're here to start trends, not follow them.
Cancer
You could give someone some incredible inspiration this month, Cancer! Maybe a friend or a loved one is working on a creative project and you're playing muse. Your look, your humor, or your smarts could be exactly what someone else needs to get inspired to create something amazing.
Leo
Who says hanging out with friends needs to be expensive? Skip the bars, the restaurants, or the clubs in favor of a no-frills hang at home. Pick up some snacks or some local goods from your favorite Maryland makers, and enjoy a low-key evening with the folks you love.
Virgo
Libra
Scorpio
Sometimes, a simple apology can go a long way. If you've been thoughtless lately, take the time to truly apologize to someone in your life -- and if someone's coming to you with a heartfelt 'I'm sorry', take them seriously.
Sagittarius
Getting a little more exercise doesn't have to be a drag! Instead of forcing yourself to go to the gym if you don't enjoy it, join a just-for-fun kickball league or team up with a buddy that you can go hiking or running with. It won't even feel like exercise.
Capricorn
Aquarius
Pisces
There's an art to being a gracious winner, Pisces. When things are going particularly well for you, it's important not to rub it in other people's faces, even if it's unintentional. Go with grace, even as you celebrate your wins!
]]>Just like Scotland's Loch Ness has Nessie, our own Chesapeake Bay has...you guessed it...Chessie. People have been seeing a strange reptilian creature in the Bay since the mid 1930's, or so they say. Fisherman and boaters and even tourists have reported long and snakey critters that can't be explained in the Bay itself and its tributaries. The most recent sighting was back in 2014, but we can't help but wonder why Chessie has become so shy in the era where everyone has a phone camera.
Even if this critter is camera-shy, we still love to pay tribute to it! Chessie has appeared on everything from local beer cans (RAR, to be precise) to environmental literature.
One of the less friendly citizens of the Old Line State, however, is the infamous Goatman of Prince George's County. The legends surrounding it are downright sinister, since the stories purported the half-man, half-goat creature wielded an axe and terrorized animals and humans alike. Some say he is a mutant from the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center while others claim he's simply an evil spirit, but for awhile, especially in the 70's, the Goatman was the terror of the DMV.
Western Maryland might be free of goat creatures, but they've got other problems to deal with: namely, the Snallygaster. This bizarre monster frightened folks in Frederick and Washington Counties back in the early 1700s. The colonists were terrified by a monster that seemed part dragon, part bird, part octopus. Even decades and even centuries later, people were still supposedly seeing the beast, and it was said that President Teddy Roosevelt considered stopping by the area to try and hunt it down. However, no Snallygaster has been caught dead or alive...yet.
What's your favorite Maryland creature? Let us know in the comments!
]]>There's nothing quite like picking your own pumpkin on a gorgeous fall day! Maryland has plenty of pumpkin patches that are truly fun for the whole family. Here are just a few!
Little ones will love everything this Ellicott City location has to offer -- it's perfect for kids. There's a petting farm stocked with critters, a hayride that goes all around the sprawling grounds, and plenty of pumpkins to pick. Do you take picking produce seriously? This Woodbine location has it all -- from pumpkins to apples to fall veggies like broccoli. You can see what the day's harvest looks like on the website before you go so you know how good the pumpkin picking will be. Of course, there's more to do here than just grab gourds! You can also enjoy a hayride, baked goods, and a boo barn for the littlest ones.
Most people are heading to this Gambrills location for, you guessed it, the maze. And it's a fun one -- this year, they've gone with a superhero theme, and it's between 45 minutes to an hour for most people to get through. But if you want pumpkins as well, you'll find them here! They're grown by the Stolfus family for the maze-goers to buy. Come hungry; there's plenty of tasty food to enjoy.
No matter how much energy your kiddos have, they'll be worn out after a day here! This Upper Marlboro farm features a petting farm, a lasso range, pumpkin bowling, and much more. The pumpkins are grown right on the grounds and come in all shapes and sizes. Best of all, the fun goes on even after Halloween is over -- this place has plenty of November hours for even more fall festivities.
Head to Germantown for some pick-your-own fun! It's not just pumpkins that you can nab; there are also apples available through October and Christmas trees in November and December. Want to relax after finding the perfect pumpkin? Reserve your own private campfire that includes a pre-lit fire that you and all your friends can enjoy.
Finding the perfect pumpkin isn't hard at all when you're at this Mitchellville spot! You can take home pumpkins big and small along with jellies, gourds, squash, mums, and much more. Even better? On October 30 and 31, the fine folks here will have pre-cleaned pumpkins just ready to be turned into jack-o-lanterns in case you're short on time. Pretty cool!

1. Make bloody candles by melting wax from a red candle over the sides of white candles! It'll give the impression that gore is dripping, especially when you light the white candle.
2. If all of your guests are of legal drinking age, you can make a mini keg out of a pumpkin! Scoop out the guts and apply the beer tap. Now, all you need to do is decide if it'll hold beer or spiked cider. Get the tutorial here.
3. Or, if you're not serving beer at your party, you can clean out a large pumpkin and fill it with ice to create an easy yet spooky cooler for your sodas or waters.
4. Who's the most terrifying storyteller of all? Give your guests the chance to tell a terrifying tale, and up the stakes by offering a price for the best story. With all of the haunted spots in Maryland, you're bound to hear some good ghost stories!
5. Play games in the dark with the help of some glow-in-the-dark paint! Apply it to your Jenga blocks so you can add more of a challenge to the game -- can you pull the bricks free with no lights on?
6. Looking for a cheap and easy activity for young (or not so young) guests? Buy plain wooden birdhouses at a craft store, and challenge them to paint a haunted house that's totally scream-worthy. Everyone will get to take home a fun and frightening favor.
7. Turn old pill bottles into spooky containers for eye of newt and cat whiskers! All you need is paint, hot glue, and old bottles that you're no longer using. Get the tutorial here.
8. Tired of the Monster Mash? Ask all of your guests to contribute a spooky song or two to a playlist that will keep everyone thrilled and chilled.
9. Want to add some healthy options? Apples are the classic Halloween fruit treat, but you can mix things up by painting Jack o'lantern faces onto the outer peels of mandarin oranges.
10. This one's a classic for a reason -- if you're serving cold drinks in a punch bowl, freeze water inside a plastic glove to create a creepy, ice-cold hand that's reaching out from the beverage.
]]>Eating Utz chips is pretty simple -- you just open a bag and dig in. But you might not realize how much history and culture is contained in every single bag of Utz snacks! There's a lot to learn about this beloved brand. Here are six fun facts.
1. The company is over 100 years old
The Utz family began cooking up snacks up in Hanover, PA back in 1921 -- 102 years ago! Many things have changed since then, including the company's name. It started off as Hanover Home Brand Potato Chips. Not quite as catchy as Utz, huh?
2. Utz makes 3.3 million pounds of product per week!
About half of that production, according to the company's website, is potato chips. The other half includes snacks like cheese balls, pretzels, tortilla chips, and more.
3. You can see how the chips are made
Wondering what it's like to create all of those mouthwatering chips? Well, you don't need to wonder. Just head north of the Maryland border to Hanover (about an hour from Baltimore) and treat yourself to a free tour!
4. You've definitely seen Utz products on TV
If you're a fan of the show The Office, which is set in Pennsylvania, you've seen Michael Scott munching on Utz cheese balls. In fact, a lot of Utz products can be seen on that show! They were also featured on shows like The Wire and Mad Men.
5. The Utz girl was named for one of the founders
Yes, the mascot has a name -- that girl reaching into the chip bag is named Salie, which is also the name of one of the company's founders, Salie Utz. She famously got 'engaged' to Mr. Boh as an ad stunt for Smyth jewelers.
6. The cheese ball tub was a suggestion from Sam's Club
In 1999, the bulk-food store suggested that the company sell cheesy snacks in giant tubs that are oh so fun to reach into. Utz took the suggestion to heart, and people have been loving the tubs ever since.
